>From Evie:
Please continue to keep George's (Evie's husband) Mom in your prayers. She
has been back in the hospital again quite a few times. At the moment she has
pneumonia and is having many other problems because of congenial heart
disease. They are now checking her lungs with an ultrasound to try to see
what is happening. She now has pneumonia and is in Good Samaritan hospital.
Thanks you friends and God bless you,
Evie
Evie indicated that George's mom is probably in her final days. Please pray
for George and his family during these challenging days.
Also continue to pray for Ben Jarvis, Cindy's son. He is having a pretty
rough time with his treatments. This is an excerpt from the on-line journal,
written by Gary, Ben's dad.
The week has been quite the roller-coaster with a few nights of very little
sleep, and a couple of Dr. visits that took hours longer than expected (one
that almost sent Ben back to the hospital). The difficult week has been
interrupted by moments of joy and laughter.
As Ben is in the midst of his third week of treatment, we have been noticing
more side-effects to the Chemo and the Steroids he is taking then before.
Diarrhea (with great stomach pain included), nerve ending pain in the legs
which have moved to other parts of his body, battling dehydration, a
headache for the first time today, weakness of his muscles and constant
fatigue. One Dr. said that the 3rd and 4th weeks will be the most
difficult. This week was the first week in which we had to break out the
pain medications.
Despite all of the difficulties, we are battling with Ben on all fronts.
The Dr.'s expertise and the drugs are killing the Leukemia cells, we battle
Ben's side-effects with rest, and motivation. Through prayer we know that
Christ has the authority over all things spiritual and physical.
We have to challenge Benjamin on many occasions because we know there are
certain things he needs to do to have better results.
1. We challenge him to be active even when his whole body wants him to
rest, because activity will keep his muscles from being too weak for the
long haul. However, he needs plenty of rest as well.
2. We challenge him to drink a lot, even though his body craves food not
drink. He needs plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. It is motivation for
him to drink so he can stay out of the hospital.
3. We challenge him to do some homework, because Chemo does effect brain
development. That is the last thing that a kid wants to do when they are
not feeling well
